So it’s already the Christmas Season at my house.Well, a touch of it at least. I put the tree up two weeks before thanksgiving. Is that crazy? NO. It is not. Here’s why:
- I read the other day that the body produces dopamine when decorating for Christmas and feeling all that nostalgia and joy. Give it to me! I’d like to plunge into those boxes of glittery delights during these foggy, frosty November mornings. It’s not like the snow is coming any time soon anyway, so I am happy to start now. I am usually very depressed this time of year, but when I look at my twinkly tree I get so happy!
- I have a fake tree so It’s not going to go bad early.
- Thanksgiving is very very late this year. I’ve already celebrated the turkey dinner with all the fixings TWICE, once with the in-laws and once with friends. Plus other countries don’t even have Thanksgiving and can start celebrating Christmas whenever they want!
- Christmas tree during Thanksgiving break cartoons and lazy mornings, yippee!!
- People seem very divided on the whole Christmas tree too early/too late debate and honestly you can do whatever you want, whenever you want as long as you’re not hurting yourself or anyone else. I’m not planning on putting my tree up in July any time soon….but if I did? Why not? Did you know that Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire was written in the summer because the writers were tired of the heat? And Mariah Carey decorated for the holidays during the summer while writing All I want for Christmas is you? I’m only two weeks early so I’m WELL within the range of normal!
- I haven’t gotten all the old nostalgic ornaments out yet… I’ll save those for the kids closer to Christmas. I’m also staying away from red and green. Everything is wintery white, silver and light gold. It fits with any lingering thanksgiving stuff.
Anyhoo! I’ve been listening to Christmas music, window shopping, feeling all gleeful and giggly and delighted. It’s the best! This week I’m planning on making some paper houses for a little winter village on my mantle. I made little birch trees for it with twigs and spray paint and glitter last night. I also want to have an owlery in my house somewhere, and a patch of paper mushrooms. There’s lots of craft magic swirly in my head!
So Happy Holidays to you! May your days be merry and bright!
